Robin Bell has been an
influential member of the International Design
community since 1983. Director of her own firm
until 2003, Robin Bell Schafer Associates, she
was asked to join the New York interior design
firm McMillen Inc., as their Senior Designer. At
the invitation of Studio for Civil Architecture,
she was asked to establish an independent
division of the firm devoted to interior design
and decoration.
Neither trendy nor revolutionary, Robin Bell’s
approach is seen less frequently today than in
years prior to the Depression as it is founded
in connoisseurship. Ms. Bell studied painting
and drawing at the Art Students’ League of New
York City and worked in the Decorative Arts
department of Sotheby’s, New York. For three
years she served as Assistant Curator to Lyn
Johnson, Curator of the Gracie Mansion
Conservancy. Their office was responsible for
the restoration and conservation of the
interiors and the research required for the
selection and acquisition of appropriate period
furnishings and objets d’art.
